Welcome to our home-away-from-Facebook! This website is an extension of the "RIP - South Garland HS - Fallen Colonels" social media group, founded in February, 2010, by 1983 SG graduate Lorie (Webb) Goodrich. The website was assembled by group editor/researcher Mike (Nance) Shannon '83 in November, 2011. It gave us a way to organize the more than 1,300 reported student passings and over 100 faculty/staff member reported deaths (as of early 2021,) and provides a backup in case any names get lost, removed or accidentally deleted from the FB group. Both resources are updated regularly.
Newest additions and latest information/revisions are in red to make them easier to find. Students are listed by class in chronological order, then alphabetically within each class; the Faculty/Staff section is located after Students, in alphabetical order as well.
Logos for

most of the names. These mean that either a photo or an obituary/news
story for that person has been posted in the "Media" category/tab on
the "RIP - South
Garland HS - Fallen Colonels" page on Facebook. Clicking on
these symbols no longer takes you anywhere. However, there is a 'search'
function within the Facebook group where you can enter a student, faculty or
staff member name to find any related posts, articles and/or photos. Just
look for the magnifying glass icon near the top of the page.
We also
include students who attended South Garland, but did not finish or graduate
there (regardless of reason...dropping out, enlisting, moving to another local
school, relocating, getting a GED later, losing his/her life during a person's
high school years, etc.) These names are purposely not given a special
designation, but are included within a student's otherwise-expected graduating
class. In the same spirit, we now include "Honorary Colonels"
on the list: These are our deceased classmates from nearby elementary and
middle/junior high schools who, more than likely, would have attended
SGHS. These entries are now denoted with a star [ 
] next to
his/her name and indexed with a person's otherwise-anticipated graduating
class. There is only a tiny quantity of these, so the group
administrators feel that it does not take away from the website's or group's
purpose. Instead, it provides a place to remember those young, late
classmates who were likely never honored in a yearbook or a published obituary.
While we try our best to document each student, faculty and staff member's passing, it's impossible to identify and list every single person. We rely on numerous sources for information on, and confirmation of, a death, but please understand that this list will always be hopelessly incomplete. No irreverence is intended if a deceased person does not appear on our list. In recent years where cremation has become commonplace, along with newspapers drifting into obsolescence and religion becoming more passé, obituaries are simply not published as routinely anymore. (A costly fee is usually involved, too.) We mainly depend on YOU for information, so please keep us in the loop if you know of someone's passing.
NEW: A reminder about our
new policy regarding submission of late classmates' names for inclusion in the
group and on this page: If you are not related to the deceased, or
authorized to speak on behalf of the deceased or his/her family, please send a
message to Lorie or Mike FIRST before publicly posting in the group about a
recent passing. You can reach out via FB Messenger or by email at logo65us@yahoo.com or mike@DfwRetroplex.com. Usually, there
is no issue with reporting a death, but there have been isolated incidents
where a family is not ready to divulge information, or has other reasons for
limiting the flow of facts or particulars. While all of us strive to provide
timely information (mainly for the sake of friends who
may want to attend services, or to reach out to an affected family with
support,) the group administrators must request your discretion and
conscientiousness and respect. However, this does NOT imply that Lorie or Mike
will be able to locate the family of a deceased (or can find an authorized
spokesperson) before posting information, and will not be responsible for
incomplete details or for information that might be considered posted in
